Our Story
The Mushunga Children Home stands as a testament to a mission born from compassion and a commitment to uplift orphans, widows, and the underprivileged within the Mushunga community. Our vision is to raise these children in a Christ-centered environment of love, respect, and acceptance, dedicated to providing them with a safe and nurturing home.
Determined to create a loving space for the children, we launched an ambitious fundraising campaign, reaching supporters around the world. Their generosity enabled us to purchase a plot of land where the Children Home building exists—a safe, nurturing place that provides stability for the children.
How it all started
In January 2021, Linda, a generous supporter from Australia, reached out. Inspired by the work, she, along with her brother, provided funds to build the first Children Home building. Construction began, and the dream of a permanent home for Mushunga’s orphans took form, representing safety and stability for the children.
As we settled into this new home, we prioritized nutrition and the children’s health. To provide a balanced diet, we established a three-day meal plan, ensuring that each child receives a variety of nutrients essential for their growth. This plan allows us to serve traditional Ugandan staples like “posho and beans” alongside other fruits and vegetables to enrich their diet.
To protect the children’s health, particularly from malaria, we provided mosquito nets, anti-malarial soap, and planted lemongrass around the orphanage as a natural mosquito repellent. Ensuring personal hygiene, additional toilet and shower blocks were built, and daily hygiene practices are enforced by our dedicated staff.
Where are we going
With the support of our global network, we continue to strive toward self-sufficiency. Through small-scale projects, we hope to teach practical skills like agriculture, empowering the children with knowledge and resilience to break the cycle of poverty.
Most of the children at the centre are under the sponsorship program.
